So, I really love the Direct TV Commercial that lists all its attributes and then says "You're going to be busy... Very busy." You know the one with the lazy super hero? I think that is awesome. Can you imagine if you actually considered yourself busy because you were watching movies and TV? Could you use it as an excuse?
I'm not saying that I have not wasted an extraodinary amount of my life one both movies and TV. A sad, sad, and very happily lazy amount of time. But, to actually say I was busy at those times? TV is the least active anything you can engage in. I know you burn more calories reading, I am almost positive you burn more sleeping.
I just think this would have been really useful is highschool. Atleast, I could have been more honest with my teachers. "Did you do your home work?" "Really I meant to, but I was really busy watching TV. I mean, it was Thursday night...Friends, ER... And, Math problems, well yeah, not so much."
Now that would have been "Super Classy"
(And sadly this posting is so short and posted so late because I was busy... watching TV, seriously.)
I am as guilty as anyone, but it seems to me that we are constantly inundated with things in modern society, that we pass off and give no notice to, that are wierd, off, or just plain not ok. I don't aim to judge ANYONE (OK, maybe some people), but I want to ask questions and figure out how this all happens and who wants it? Or just hear points of view, because I love hearing other people's opinions, no matter how different.

Family Ties
So last night I was watching TV when I couldn't sleep and Dr. Phil came on after something I actually wanted to watch and I didn't bother to change it, as I was on FB playing WOF. Anyway, inevitably some of the show filtered into my brain.
(BTW: I swear all talk shows end up more like Jerry Springer than anything else.)
There was this couple on that had already been married and divorced once, they had a daughter together and she had a son from a previous relationship. (God bless the modern family.) They had recently remarried, in front of their children, but without informing their families, who would be mad. It had been like less than a month and they wanted Dr. Phil to tell them if they should give up on try #2. More information than you ever really need to know about any Dr. Phil (unless you like his show), but needless to say these people had issues, were crazy and really just not....
BUT, the best part was one of the things the husband did. They, ofcourse, traded "You're Crazy" "No, You Are!" barbs and anecdotes back and forth and they were both WOW! The husband would leave little notes and make little rules all over the house and expect that they would be followed, naturally. One of them was that everyone should start folding their toilet paper rather than crumpling it to wipe.
I LOVE THAT! I have to say that I don't think I have every put that much thought into my own TP, let alone anyone elses. I mean to actually think about, dictate, or try to control what someone else does when wiping their own ass is just awe inspiring to me. I mean anyone with a kid under a certain age has to do their fair share of dealing with wiping someone elses butt, and I still have to say I only think about it when directly confronted with it. I cannot imagine thinking I was that in control of my own life, let alone anyone else's. Who has time to consider these things? (Well, other than me right now.)
My response to this would be... "Unless you're willing to do it yourself..."
Yeah that's "Super Classy!"
(And,obviously, so am I.)

Innocence Anyone?
Ok so, I have a big problem with the Rape of Innocence that is perpetrated in our society pretty much constantly. It's not even subtle anymore. I mean that could be a good thing because it is easier to watch out for... if you're looking. It seems to me that most are not.
I started thinking about how blatant it has become when I saw a preview for a movie called "Let Me In" one night when I couldn't sleep. (OK, several nights.) It is about a young girl who is a vampire doing anything for blood and a young boy who is her friend. They even use "She has the face of an angel..." to promote it.
My question? Who lets their child be even remotely attached to something like this? Yes, I know money, fame, blah blah blah... But really how sick. Why is there no law, no organization stepping in to protect children from this. It's not free speach. There are supposed to be things that cannot be said and done to minors. I mean people criticize parents for letting a child go to a funeral, or telling them about the horrors of life in other places in the world, but this is OK? So often children today are kept in a selfish little "protected" bubble from the reality of life and the world around us, but having them participate in horrible things or consume it for entertainment is ok?
I just think that it is bad enough that innocence is taken away from children because of life, and worse purposely done so by the adults meant to protect them, but now we have them actively participating in taking their own and other's? And using the innocent face of a child to promote it?
Yeah, that's "Super Classy!"
